I'm not a big fan of most canned, overly produced holiday music. I've only grown into liking (sometimes barely tolerating) holiday songs again after having kids. What I like the most are acoustic tunes, with non-offending voices, and these are few and far between.
Enter Hullabaloo's Santa Songs. I've reviewed their music before, here. The band refers to themselves on their website:
Especially in a world of synthesized, repetitive and obnoxious Christmas music, Hullabaloo's Santa Songs really sticks out as delightfully real and authentic. It's all acoustic, and as the title suggests, all about Santa. What fun! These are the kid's favorite tunes anyway.
My favorite song on this CD is a new classic, All of the Above. This song features the names of all sorts of holiday celebrations from across religions and the globe, promoting tolerance and multi-culturalism. All of the Above also showcases all different languages saying the word peace. The chorus shares, "We're all celebrating peace, happiness and love," which is exactly what I want my children to grow up remembering about the holidays.
You really can't go wrong with this CD. It's place is firmly affixed in our CD player until after the holidays. Santa Songs are also a great way to teach kids these timeless carols-- already mine are humming and singing these tunes around the house. This only lends to holiday cheer and the possibility of going caroling, where the kids actually know all the words!
