Earth Day Series: Little Green Books (giveaway and reviews!)

Have you seen Little Green Books?  They are a line of books about environmental issues and living green by Simon and Schuster.  Little Green Books are made from recycled materials and printed on vegetable and soy based inks.

This is a cute little lift the flap book about recycling and re-use.  My girls, now 3 and 5, still love lift the flap books.  And they also loved them as babies, and chewing these books seems much better than the glossy types of other board books.  After reading this book, my older daughter looked at me after brushing her teeth and said, "when that is too old we can use it to brush our stuffed animals' teeth!" and I thought, this is really sinking in.

This is a book for children a little older than mine, but we enjoy looking at it and reading particular pages.  In it is loads of information about global warming, animal awareness, recycling and reuse, landfills and trash, and activism.  In between there are coloring pages, mazes and activities.  This is a great book for the 8-11 year old set interested in the environment.

This adorable book shows how climate change affects a polar bear mama and cubs.  The end is happy (thankfully!)  and the book concludes with what children can do to fight climate change.  The illustrations are sweet in this simple but effective book.

This lift the flap book features endangered animals on every page, with some habitat information.  The last page inspires kids to help animals.  Great illustrations and message!

Five lucky readers will receive a copy of all of these fine green books in honor of Earth Day.  Just tell me why you would like this green book bundle in the comments.  Be sure to leave your spam unfriendly email address, and extra entries for following us on Twitter, fanning of Facebook, and posting this on your site!  Good luck, readers, this is a great prize and I am happy to bring it to you.

Meeting FTC guidelines:  Yes, I did receive a review copy of these books, but was not compensated in anyway to write this post. It is, as all of my posts are, based on my independent experiences, humble judgement and opinions.

I would LOVE these adorable books for my little girl. She's 13 months old and just loves to sit and look at her picture books while I read to her. I've been looking around at my local B&N for some earth-conscious books to start her on but haven't been able to find much. I'm hoping that reading these to her at a young age will encourage her to "stay green" all through her life.

I have an almost 4 months old baby boy who just loves books, and almost everything that he uses were hand downs. I want to teach him the importance of taking care of the earth and not to worry about owning fancy new things. These books would help reinforce the message I'm trying to deliver. I am both a parent of a 7mo. old and a 1st grade teacher. In the classroom, I am always looking for new books/resources to help teach the children about taking care of the Earth. We recently read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss and did projects/writings about conserving resources. As a parent, I look forward to teaching my little one about the ways he can take care of the Earth. Our nightly routine includes reading books and I would love to have these books to share with him.

We are introducing eco-friendly things to my 2 1/2 year old. This has been a process but an exciting one. I love when I throw something out to then have my son kindly tell me to take it out of the trash and to put it in the compost bucket. He also loves books and I think it would be a great reminder and help reinforce the things we are trying to teach him. I have a lot to learn as well.

My daughters (ages 3 and 1) and I are voracious readers, and big earth-supporters. They see us recycling and are looking forward to doing some gardening this summer to learn more about caring for our little piece of the world. We would love more ideas to help save the earth, one child at a time (or in our family's case - two!).

Thank you! jennifermsw@yahoo.com

I would love a set of these books to share with my almost-6yo, 4yo, and 2yo. We already talk about some of these issues, but there's a lot they still don't "get" and I've been looking for more resources for awhile. Plus, they love getting new books.

I am always on the lookout for new ways to explain global warmin to my 4 and 6 year old fellas.

Too, we live in a less than 'eco-friendly' area. My kids love to take their books to school to read to the class or have the teacher or myself read to the class. They get very excited about sharing with their friends all the different ways to save the planet.

We follow you on FB as well. Thanks for all you do!

When I gave birth in August of last year, I named my daughter Luna, in reverence for the moon and the earthly elements. Her entire name: Luna Stone Crespo. Stone is her father's last name, and Crespo is my last name. It is not a coincidence that Luna Stone translates to Moonstone.

As she is still only seven months old, she is just now beginning to show a curiosity towards animals, flowers, plants, insects, and food. I love watching her on the grass when she pulls at tiny flowers and leaves and puts them to her mouth to taste them. I also love the way she grabs at old leaves that have somehow made their way into our kitchen. She inspects these leaves in a way that I never have. It reminds me -- watching her -- of how important it is to slow down and appreciate my environment, our world.

I would love to be able to add one of these books to our small collection. I think that it is important to teach children from a young age that one must live in harmony with nature, and that one must love and respect nature. Little Green Books would be a wonderful way to emphasize this, and to share with Luna images that capture the beauty of living in harmony with nature.

I would love these books for my 1 year old. I was raised doing everything that has now become trendy. I'm grateful to my parents for teaching me to "reduce, re-use, recycle" (WAY before it was called that). I believe it's more important than ever for the new generation to understand the importance of taking care of our world in every way possible and raising their awareness from a young age is what will raise consciousness the world over. I look forward to reading the books. Thank you!

Hi Katy
I am a commuhnity librarian in Clarenville NL. And it is really hard to find materials to do an Earth Day story time with my preschoolers.
I am also the mother to a 4yr old and 7 yr old. Both of whom are very interested in ways to help Planet Earth. NL is a lot behind in the times when it comes to the three Rs. We try our best at home to do what we can. I think that a set of these books would greatly benefit our community. Because as we all know, children have a HUGE influence on what happens in our homes. Cheers, Tanya

I love getting books for my little girl. I worry about paper use when I get her new ones, so most of her books are used. She's young now, 20 months, but it's important to start out caring for the world. Thank you for sharing the information on the Little Green books.

I'm a preschool teacher and though I love my students and believe in helping them to be green, some of them have no clue!! Especially in the bathroom where they insist on taking two paper towels to dry their little hands! I hope your books will help them see the need to be more careful with our earth!! Coming from a book, they may see I'm not the only one concerned!!

I gave a few friends turning 3yrs a copy of Al Gore's "Our Choice" to open up the parent-child discussion about climate change, environmental degradation, limitations to population growth and finite resources, but these new Simon & Schuster books weave these concepts into the reality of everyday for those even younger! If recycling, conserving energy, growing your own food, and encouraging your parents to buy a hybrid are foundational practices began as a child, then this up-and-coming generation is equipped to address these larger realities head-on with progressive thoughts that can yield lasting positive change. My 3yr and 1yr old would love to share these with friends.
