Breastfeed Wherever You Are, Mamas! (with inspiration from Holistic Moms)
Check out this inspirational video from Holistic Moms. They were motivated to call for photos of their members breastfeeding by an article in the Herald Sun (Australia) reporting that young women are reluctant to breastfeed their babies due to fear of public embarrassment.
"Breastfeeding is one of the greatest gifts a mother can give to her child," says Executive Director Nancy Massotto, Ph.D. "Nursing offers babies enormous health benefits – physically, psychologically, emotionally, and sustainably for the planet. We want young women to embrace a culture of breastfeeding and to become informed about the benefits for moms, for children, and for the planet."
I couldn't agree more! I love the photos from all over the world, and it brought back sweet memories of nursing my two little girls while hiking, on a plane, in restaurants and museums. Nursing mamas, in a blink, it will be over! Embrace this phase of your life and don't be embarrassed to nurse in public. It is your right, and will be inspiring to mothers around you that might feel discouraged by family members or spouses. I join the Holistic Moms in supporting and encouraging women to breastfeed their babies, no matter where they are!

What an inspiring video. I'm currently nursing my second baby, who just turned one year old. I've been having thoughts of weaning soon, but that video just made me remember why I want to continue for as long as he is willing to nurse.
Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for this post- and what a great idea to encourage breastfeeding in public. It always warms my heart to see a woman nursing her baby wherever they are- but I don't see it often. I nurse wherever, whenever my 19-month-old needs to. She is my 3rd child, so I am so much more comfortable than with my 1st. With him, we'd nurse in the car before going into a store or event. If we were already inside, I'd find a fitting room to sit in and nurse him. But I had no support from anyone around me back then.
I feel times are changing- and I've definitely changed. Sometimes I'll just smile as people walk past us nursing in a shopping aisle, and sometimes I just don't make eye contact if I don't feel like it. It doesn't concern me what they are thinking- it is a waste of time to even think about. I am nourishing and comforting my baby, and that's the best thing I can do!
Thank you so much for this video. One of my mom friends sent it to me. This is such a beautiful, touching video.
I have an 18-month old son named Noah. He watched part of the video with me, and when he would see a mom, he'd say, "Mom!" When he'd see a baby nursing, he'd say, "Milk!" We have an 8-week old daughter named Anna. Whenever she starts to fuss, he immediately tells me, "Anna! Milk!" When we ask him what Anna's doing, he always says, "Milk!" And he's usually right; she nurses a lot.
I feel very blessed to have been able to nurse Noah for the first 365 days of his life, and now to be nursing Anna. I was so looking forward to tandem nursing and nursing Noah longer, but Noah decided to self-wean on his first birthday. I love the independent, sweet person he's becoming, but a part of me will always miss nursing him and miss him being a little baby.
