News from Consumer Reports last week: Graco recalled 1.5 million strollers after 5 children suffered from fingertip amputations from a stroller hinge. There have also been reports of lacerations from the hinges.
The full story with plenty of links for more information can be found at the Consumer Reports Safety blog.
Check this link from the Consumer Product Safety Commission for the model number of the strollers affected by this recall, as well as pictures of the offending hinges and a stroller that has them.
The products involved include the stroller models for Passage, Alano and Spree and travel systems. However, both hinges were used with these, so check the model numbers listed on the CPSC recall page linked above, or compare your stroller canopy hinge with the one pictured above.
Here is a video from the CPSC with more information. According to Consumer Reports and the CPSC, "Consumers should stop using the recalled strollers and contact Graco at (800) 345-4109 to receive a free protective cover repair kit."
Thanks to Consumer Reports for notifying me about this recall, and providing this important information to Non-Toxic Kids readers!
