Close the Loop: Buy Ecojot's Sketch Books for Your Budding Artist

While searching for a birthday present for one of my daughter's dear friends (I settled on a Melissa and Doug stamp kit), I came across ecojot's journals and sketchbooks.

Two things I liked right away was that they are made from 100 percent recycled paper and they are made in Canada. I like teaching my daughter the idea of closing the loop: using paper, recycling it, and buying recycled paper. It just makes sense. Check out ecojot's green stats:

- 100% recycled + recycleable,
- 100% post-consumer waste
- no new trees were cut to make these notebooks
- paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council
- glues & inks are vegetable based, which means they’re biodegradable

I'm also a fan of the country with a maple leaf on their flag, universal health care and paid maternity leave. But that is another story. I also haven't heard of many human rights, environmental health and safety problems occurring in Canada, and for me, it is a mere two hours from here. So, not much travel or greenhouse gases needed (depending on where they are made in Canada, of course).

I found a whimsical sketchbook with colorful owls on the cover. Now that my 3 year old is actually drawing, versus scribbling (sometimes), it is nice to have a book that I can label with the date and title of what she was drawing. It is small enough to save and isn't messy like big news print pads are.

So I bought it for my daughter, and it was reasonable at 7 dollars at our local independent bookstore. This is a gift I will look for to bring to birthday parties in the future, maybe with a pack of colored pencils, or a special pen.

After taking a look at ecojot's website, I found all their products to be beautifully designed, and they have a wide range of sketchbooks, journals, workbooks and agendas. These would be perfect eco-friendly back to school options for students at any age.
